When buying light up wheels for your skates, you should look for how fast the lights come on and how long they continue to glow. Not all wheels light up instantly. Some wheels require faster speed to light up. A huge determinant of an enjoyable roller skating experience is the quality of bearings on the wheels. Wheel bearings affect the speed and smoothness of your skating. As I’ve stated in many of my bearing articles, the most important aspect of a bearing is that it is clean. Remember to recharge both power banks after skating. I keep a “charging station” hooked up all the time, with the dual-output power adapter & 2 micro-USB cables. It’s ready to use when you get home from skating. Just plug them both up overnight.
IR (infrared) controllers work, but the remote emits a beam of infrared light, which the controller (on the bottom of the skate) has to “see”. In practice, you have to aim the remote at the floor and bounce the light beam off the floor to the controller. If one controller is mounted on the inner side of the skate and the other controller is on the outer side of the other skate, you will probably have to change them individually. Most TV remotes are IR, so you have to aim them at the target before they “register’. The controllers also have to be turned the correct way to “see” the beam. The “eye” can’t be turned towards the skate boot sole or they’ll be blind. Making a skate holder out of a cardboard box makes working on your skates easier. Skate Holder (Optional) I use different power banks, depending on the size of the skates. Some power banks have to be turned on and off independently from the lights.
